My mother asked me to switch her to Linux (Ubuntu/Gnome) back on spring, being fed-up of windows ads and sluggishness [likely a combination of ads/useless tracking processes and a slow HDD].
6 months latter, she is amazed. It's simpler for her, she has far fewer slowness and no ads. She was already using Firefox, Libre Office and Thunderbird and that's 90% of her computer activities so there was little change - the remaining being reading PDF, looking at video and image, or printing things.
She even successfully "repaired" her printer by herself one day (blocked jobs, cleaning the queue, etc).
The computer is up to date and clean.

So, I will call it #GreatSuccess and I missed when the #linuxYearOfTheDesktop passed and went, but it was somewhere in the distant past, at least for a 67 year old woman, not tech savy and with a past of manual work with lower social status & incomes, in a remote rural part of French Alps.
