Indiana passes law allowing lawsuits against "obscene" government performances.

"House Enrolled Act 1014 gives legal standing to any person, anywhere, to seek injunctive relief, attorney's fees, court costs and "other reasonable expenses" if they file a lawsuit claiming an Indiana governmental entity knowingly or intentionally organized or hosted an obscene performance, or used any taxpayer dollars to fund an obscene performance."

Tree swallows are a common bird here. They live near water of some kind and nest in cavities, though they also use manmade nest boxes. They eat mostly insects. They have beautiful iridescent dark blue feathers, and pure white throats, chests and bellies. Here is a photo of a tree swallow perched on top of a nest box.

This photo shows two tree swallows having a conversation. Both birds have their beaks wide open and it looks like they are shouting. This is a likely a mated pair and after this short interlude, they quietly perched on their nesting box.

Normally, tree swallows are very wary of humans, but this one must have laid eggs, because she is watching us closely and not budging from her box. (This picture was taken with a telephoto lens, as I tried to keep my distance. Unfortunately for her, the walking path goes right by the nest boxes and unless you want to end up in the brambles and water, you have to get somewhat close.)

This is a photo of a male bluebird, looking very blue. He and the missus have set up house in one of the nest boxes quite near the house. I have seen snakes about, so tomorrow I will put some acetate over the pole holding up the nest box.

This blue jay is showing me the bit of sunflower chip that I scrounged from the ground. I have seen it and its mate in the yard, so there will probably be little blue jays this year.

The chipping sparrows come every year. Last year, I saw a chipping sparrow and its mate desperately feeding an enormous fledgling. A cowbird had laid her egg in the chipping sparrow's nest and the when it hatched, the large cowbird fledgling had probably hogged all the food, likely causing the death of the sparrow's own offspring. And yet, these parents were doing everything they could to keep this changeling fed. I wonder if they know the cowbird is not their biological offspring or if that even matters to them.

A yellow throated warbler is a tiny bird. It is black and white and gray all over with a striking yellow throat and upper chest. It likes the suet nuggets. I have heard him singing in the yard (he's amazing loud, for such a little guy), but have not seen a mate yet.

The Indiana legislature is abolishing courts, while they are seeking to criminalize homeless people.

The homeless will continue to be pushed out of rural counties to more urban areas because taxpayers there cannot afford to fund schools and other local government functions after this legislative season.

The Indiana government could pay people $40K/year and save money over locking them up.

For the third time, #INlegis has revived language that would subject people to criminal charges, fines, and jail for being without a home.

The cruelty is almost cartoonish, but the real harm this would do to human beings isn't funny.
