Enough HackTheBox CyberApocalypse CTF for me. Difficulty rating was a joke - lots of wasted time, by far not as successful as hoped for.
Had lots of fun in the Blockchain (seriously!) and ML (yup!) categories, while by far not as successful in Rev let alone Pwn, and - less surprising - my arch-nemesis Crypto.

Looking forward for write-ups.

So happy at the moment, just pawned my first ever seasonal #hackthebox box. It was an "easy" one and named Dog.

It took me quite a while. But again I learned a lot. I really should start to create checklists of commands I want to run when starting out. Way too easy to forget some small tweaks.

I just read this (now deleted) question on Reddit:

"Wich One İs better Hack the box Or Try Hack me?" (sic!)

This may be unpopular, but IMO
1) Nothing beats building your own environments, as you'll learn *how* the stuff works and *why* misconfigs happen.
2) Real targets rarely have as limited attack surfaces as these lab machines. A crucial skill is to filter the data you get from initial scans (IIRC OSCP labs were more realisting in this aspect).

Since 2021, I hadn't used #hackthebox. Recently tackled the #Backfire machine, which required combining #SSRF and #RCE vulnerabilities.

To complete it, I used two AIs: #o1 and #DeepSeek R1. While helpful, In my opinion, AIs can only support about 20% or 30% of the process, the rest relies on expertise and experience, especially when the machine hasn't been retired yet and there's not much info available.

I thought I'd try my hand at one of the seasonal machines on #hackthebox, instead I've spent all my time trynig to figure out how to install an mssql client. I think part of the problem is i haven't updated my kali vm in like 6 months... remember kids, always apt update and apt upgrade before installing new software

#linux I guess?

If anyone is interested in getting down with Hack the Box's Halloween CTF, "Hack the Boo," this week and you haven't already signed up, go create an account and request to join the team, "ACAB-All Churros Are Beautiful," then DM me.

The warm-up has been Monday, Tuesday, and today and the competition begins tomorrow and goes until Friday. No pressure to actually perform. I haven't gotten much time in myself because of responsibilities but the 3 questions I've been able to burn energy on have been fun. I don't get to reverse engineer much and it's always a fun challenge, even in failure.

Alright folx, time for a new vict...I mean... chapter. Tomorrow, we'll be taking our first look at #hackTheBox, primarily #HTb Academy. Often considered a less handholdy #tryHackMe, this is another fantastic resource for getting folks new to #infosec skilled up. But how do they fare where #accessibility is concerned? Better than THM? Worse? We'll have to see.
Checking this out tomorrow at 3 PM EST, 9 PM CEST. I'm making a bunch of noise behind the scenes, let's see if we can get some folks who actually work there to sit up and take notice. See you then over at twitch.tv/IC_Null or youtube.com/@blindlyCoding #HackTheBoxAcademy #HTBA #selfPromo #twitch #YouTube #screenReader

TwitchIC_null - TwitchFully blind person hacking, coding and tinkering while using a screen reader. THM, HTB, accessibility, all the things.

A recap: We've covered a number of things on this channel so far, from an @elementary review to a look at code editors, datascience tools, screen readers, hacking tools like Burp Suite and platforms like TryHackMe, all from a screen raeder user's perspective. I'm only just getting started though, intending to cover a wide variety of different things, from more #FOSS tools, audio/video editing, programming and hacking tools etc.
Today's stream will be more #tryHackMe content, with a look at #HackTheBox Academy next week. Anyone who wants this kind of feedback, and doesn't mind constructive, but thorough, feedback, come talk to me :) We'll be going live today at 3 PMeST over at https;//twitch.tv/ic_null and youtube.com/@lindlyCoding #infoSEc #cybersecurity #accessibility #selfPromo #twitch #youtube #streaming
