Hardwire anything important. Especially security systems and cameras. Yes it’s a pain. But it’s worth it. Unifi isn’t perfect. But it’s surprisingly good, and keeps getting better. And the prices are fair.

BONUS: If/when that ecosystem goes to hell, the cable is run for whatever’s next.

@fehrnetzt Man muss einfach mal sagen, dass die bei #UniFi einfach einen verdammt guten Job machen! Meine UDM Pro ist jetzt über 5 Jahre alt und hat über die Zeit so viele neue Features bekommen, dass diese eigentlich heute ein komplett anderes Gerät ist. Und das nur über regelmäßige kostenlose Software-Updates.

I will say, I wasn't 100% sure I'd like Unifi routers after setting a few up for family. Been running APs and Switches for years though

For Family it has been great, I can access their config remotely and diagnose any issues from the app or the web.

What I never liked was the routing rules. They just made no sense when coming from PFSense.

Seems the 9.0 update fixes a lot of this headache. I bought a UCG Max and replaced my PFSense router with only a few hours of config and tweaking.

Jetzt bin ich doch noch mal in das Thema #Unifi Access Points gefallen.

Vermutlich reicht der #U6Pro aus, da ich aktuell kein Wi-Fi 7 Gerät besitze. Wi-Fi 7 wäre natürlich zukunftssicherer.

Der #U7Pro war recht schnell raus, da dieser wohl einen Lüfter hat. Wobei neuere Revisionen wohl keinen Lüfter mehr haben.

Also dann doch auf den #U7ProXG gehen, der aber so viel Power hat, die ich vermutlich nie brauchen werden?

Der U6 Pro ist im Stromverbrauch recht moderater unterwegs und hat 4x4 MIMO im 5-Ghz-Bereich. Beim U7 Pro XG sind es nur 2x2. Ob das einen spürbaren Unterschied macht, weiß ich auch nicht.

Habt ihr da eventuell Erfahrung mit?

Heute kam eine Mail, dass das #CloudGatewayFiber bei #ubiqiti wieder verfügbar ist.

Chance direkt genutzt und die erste Bestellung fertig gemacht.

Damit kann das neue Netzwerk im Haus bald starten. Da noch kein DSL vorhanden ist, werde ich mal versuchen mit einem alten iPhone und einem Adapter alles aufzusetzen.

Werde die neuen extra Karten der Telekom testen. Damit bekomme ich eine weitere Daten-SIM mit dem gleiche Volumen wie der Hauptvertrag. Man schauen wie schnell die 30 GB aufgebraucht sind.

Jetzt natürlich auch wieder die Frage: Gute Namen fürs WLAN.

My aging #Ubiquiti Edgerouter-X is failing. So, I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to set up a new #Unifi Gateway Max without success. I'm returning it.

I decided to just get a #miniPC with dual 2.5Gbe and install #Opnsense on it. (This guy: a.co/d/431PbIV)

I'm hoping it arrives early because I'm not sure the Edgerouter will last until next month. I've also never used Opnsense, so this will be another grand experiment.

Maybe I'll install it in a VM on Proxmox for now so I can FAFO.

So I've made some improvements, reducing the streams from 1080p to 360p seems to help a lot in terms of it not massively lagging but the quality of the stream is still pretty bad and the latency is terrible even on "Low latency mode". I think I'm going to have to go back to the original plan which was to try to get it to work in-browser using the #Unifi native viewer in the web browser which is a lot less ideal and a lot less streamlined but the feeds are already lagging 15 seconds behind and dropping and I can no longer see an obvious bottle neck on the pi's side...

Are you like me, and have a big dumb contrived unifi network at home?

has the controller ever shit the bed on you, or have you ever lost your controller? I was running mine in docker on a syno array, which had btrfs issues and the partition 'crashed'. so no more controller.

so i took an aluminum bat to chatgpt for several hours yesterday in addition to a bunch of manual editing and came up with this: a unifi probe shellscript

Finalement, j'ai claqué du pognon sur un produit neuf qui correspondait mieux à mes besoins (Cloud Gateway Fiber pour les curieux).

J'ai hâte de tester ça, même s'il faut être honnête, ça ne me servira à rien tant que la fibre n'arrive pas. Allez, elle est dans la rue, y a plus grand-chose à faire ! 🤞
