This is a polite reminder that vaccinations are safe, and that measles outbreaks are entirely preventable.

Denying your little(s) access to potentially life saving vaccines is wildly irresponsible and actively endangers their well-being.

Vaccines don't cause autism. They cause adults.

This is completely speculation, but ...
3 of the 5 known cases of #measles in #Colorado are connected with Chihuahua Mexico. Why are unvaccinated people traveling to Chihuahua? And why is there a big measles outbreak in Chihuahua?

Turns out Chihuahua is a big missionary destination for Mormons and evangelical Xians. Hmmm ....

@AoaI yes. Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases on the planet.

"And the #measles virus is uniquely diabolical as it can destroy our immune system’s cells, causing “immune amnesia.” It is all entirely preventable with immunization."

Measles by itself is not highly lethal, but the danger it poses is serious for three reasons.

First, it is the most contagious disease known to humankind. The Spanish Flu had an infection rate of 1.5-2. Measles has an infection rate of 12-18.

Second, Measles can hide in the body for years, cross the blood-brain barrier, and cause death long after you forgot about it.

Third, the extreme danger of measles is what it does to your immune system. Throughout your life, as your body contracts and fights off diseases, it keeps a record of how to fight those diseases. Measles comes in and burns 20-70% of those records, so that the next time you catch a sniffle it might turn into a life-threatening lung infection. —summation of the linked podcast by u/animorphsgeek #Measles #MeaslesOutbreak #Epidemiology #PublicHealth #HHS #RFKjr #epidemic #Childhood

My Body, My Choice?

Well, yes, of course, but consider this: without a 5% increase in measles vaccine uptake, measles could once again become endemic in the U.S., while a 10% decline in vaccination rates could result in over 11 million measles cases and over 150,000 deaths per year.

And this is not just among the knuckleheads who choose not to vaccinate themselves and their children. Low vaccination rates eliminate the herd immunity that protects vulnerable people with impaired immunity like seniors, people with immunological illnesses, people with cancer, and all infants under the age of 12 months, as well as the 3% of healthy vaccinated individuals that the vaccine fails to protect.

If history is left to write after this dismal era ends, historians are going to have a field day asking what propelled such stupidity in so many of us in this era, such selfishness and lust for cruelty — all coupled with astonishing self-righteousness.

What a commentary on the stupidity — and venality — of a critical mass of people at this point in history, that, collectively, they/we have chosen to return ALL of us to a situation in which measles will be endemic.

When the disease had been conquered by a vaccine and the willingness of a critical mass to recognize the importance of vaccinating ourselves and our children and in that way, protecting not just ourselves but the common good….

WIRED · Scientists Find Measles Likely To Become Endemic in the US Over Next 20 YearsVon Emily Mullin

I probably shouldn’t have read this this morning. The #measles are so much worse than I thought.

My doctor assures me that my childhood vaccines will protect me even though I have #MECFS and my immune system freaks out if it gets triggered.

I wear a respirator everywhere that other people breathe so hopefully that will help too.

Per Reuters

Total U.S. measles cases through April 17 represent about a 180% increase over the 285 cases reported in all of 2024 - the second highest annual U.S. case count in 25 years, the CDC said on Thursday in its weekly report.
The cases in the ongoing outbreak in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma have occurred among close-knit communities with low vaccination rates, according to the report.
