Pit stop on the way home from this morning's camogie match #CyclingInDublin
My commute is less than 3km. This morning's driver behaviour count:
1 speeding in a 30kph zone
3 parked on double yellow lines
2 parked on bus lanes
2 driving in bus lanes
2 parked on cycling lanes
2 breaking red lights (and several accelerating through amber lights)
2 making an illegal turn
Is today a full moon or something?
Cycle into work: No less than 3 people walk out in front of me (into a cycle lane)! A van left-hooks me on the quays.
Cycle home: I have to jam on because a scooter ignores a red at the 5 Lamps. Another guy steps out into the cycle lane. And at Fairview, an aulfella ranting goes "Look at that asshole, he should know better at his age!"
A successful away match against Ballinteer, rewarded with a hot chocolate in Marley Park. Really felt like spring today.

We really need to move on from using plastic wands as cycling infrastructure in Dublin.
Every month, on the last Friday of the month @IBIKEDublin and @monthlycycles organise a leisurely family-friendly cycle around Dublin's city centre as part of the global #CriticalMass movement. Last month was, predictably, a Halloween-themed event. You can get a taste for what it is like from this video by @ukwightphil
Watch this space for details of our next bike ride on the 29th November and feel free to join us!
First trip was a success. We used the Dodder Greenway for most of the journey - slightly longer route but infinitely more pleasant ride. The boys played well and won convincingly. And we stopped off in Bushy Park for a well-earned hot chocolate and mocha on the way home - much better than the usual petrol station fare, and a far nicer environment to drink it in.
Picked up this yesterday from the Bleeper Bike Library via my kids' GAA club. Getting the first proper run out today to go to an away match at Ballyboden. Already replacing car trips on day one!

Hi folks - we've set up a company page on LinkedIn to broaden our online reach.
Please give us a follow if you are on that platform.
Cllr Barry Heneghan didn't take long to roll back on his election promises
This is a research project I'm involved in. We're currently looking for participants - parents cycling their kids to school - so we can test out various wearable devices for measuring stress.
If you want to get involved email nakisa.soltani[at]ucd.ie
We don't always get cycling infrastructure right in Dublin but when we do it can be very good!

Catherine Conlon is always worth a read, and this piece is no exception.
The Ringsend to City Centre Bus Connects Core Bus Corridor has been granted planning permission by An Bord Pleanála.
The most significant part of the project is a new sustainable transport bridge across the mouth of the Dodder linking Ringsend to Sir John Rogerson's Quay which will provide a safer walking and cycling route into the city centre and link up with the existing north-south cycling infrastructure.
An almost total absence of enforcement leads inevitably to a culture of impunity among drivers with the result that our roads are less safe for people cycling than they should be.
This not only impacts on people who cycle but also on accessibility for people who would like to cycle but who find the existing infrastructure too challenging.

Confirmation that sometime late last year a member of the public removed bollards from the junction where Greta Price-Martin was killed on April 24th, and that the council knew about this since January.

"Every time I cycle in town I count near misses or identify incidences that one mistake from me would result in my injury or worse. Delays in making this busy area safer for everyone – which is only possible by removing space for cars and giving more room to walkers, cyclists and those in wheelchairs – could be betting on the lives of people who use this space." - Ciara Murphy, Jesuit Centre for Faith and Justice
Well, I got there in one piece and succesfully gave blood which I've been told will be used for neo-natals (the advantages of having a versatile blood type!). And I only had two close passes and a driver swearing at me on my trip back to work.
