Scheibe & GüntzelIt's on. Just arrived in Helsinki. Will now continue by train direction Vaasa. Our project PRESERVED // Rågens rike /Finland is going into the next round. This time it will be all about the Finish specialty "mämmi/memma". Stay tuned. We avoid traveling by plane and take busses, trains and ferries as much as possible. Scheibe & GüntzelThrowback Friday CASTING SHADE In the frame of our series PRESERVED we realized several projects that lasted for more than a year. One was the project „Old Land – New Land [Vegetable Shooting]“ which took place in 2020 in the Münstlerland region. We explored the ways in which the landscape of Westphalia will be transformed through the effects of climate change. The idea was to not only make visible the effects of climate change on Westphalia’s countryside, but also to mirror the emotional significance of the anthropogenic changes incurred upon the landscape for the people. Due to the extraordinary situation of Covid-19, select activities and planned actions needed to be modified so that the public could also engage with the work from home. The project was hosted by Schloss Senden. During the ‘dog days of summer’ – the hottest periods of the year – temperatures in Senden rise up to 35° Celsius. The regional newspaper, Westfälische Nachrichten, reported that the past three summers had been so hot and dry that they had led to the worst drought in the Münster region in over 250 years. In the midday heat, the artists offered shade to the roses outside Senden’s town hall. In the years to come, providing shade for plants will play an ever-greater role in farming.
