Mason Pines<p><a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/Debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Debian</span></a> update day for me, following the release of 12.10 yesterday.</p><p>I updated the main desktop, plus my <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/raspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>raspberryPi</span></a> and a <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/minipc" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>minipc</span></a>, which I use for some <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/docker" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>docker</span></a> containers.</p><p>They were all entirely harmless and easily completed in a few minutes each. A clean reboot sets me up for updates until 12.11 is released.</p><p>I do regularly check for updates, but largely only do things like browsers for the most part, leaving other updates until the next point release from <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <br>I do of course check for any nasty security updates and will apply them on a case-by-case basis.</p><p>For me, the beauty of <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/stable" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stable</span></a> is that it is so stable. Yes, I do leverage <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/backports" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>backports</span></a> for a few packages (mostly LibreOffice) but otherwise it is left alone.</p><p>My main desktop stays on 24/7 so it can often be the case that the uptime is the entire time between a point release and the next. 3 months or so uptime on a desktop needs a stable base, and <a href="https://universeodon.com/tags/debian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>debian</span></a> gives me that.</p>
