Mission Critical Employees Gone
Due to restructuring IT departments for social security they took mission critical employees ( employees protected from being fired at will, people that would work through a pandemic etc) and threw them into OCIO which is either a new or previous department.Under this department they are no longer mission critical. OCIO is under 50% lay off. There is an open penned letter from Elizabeth Warren asking about this department and the plans for wiping it out.Because everyone was moved departments it basically neutered the union. I repeat the Union has lost its ability to protect people. The unions ability to provide benefits and protection for telework only works if a new agreement is signed by the current sitting president. The last agreement that protected and carried telework for these missions critical employees was sign by Biden. This means that AFGE is sidelined.Why people should care.Social security is a house on stilts. It was already a service where they had 1 person per a million customers essentially. This means firing special security feds that were critical. Allowing them to resign early allowing people to take deferred payments.We are already seeing internally the system going down weekly after they purged the department that was in charge of payment. This is only going to get worse.This not a joke or a game. People legitimately will starve, elderly or children/mothers. People are not going to be able to get hearings with judges because the IT who actively support and keep everything running will be gone. If you are in social security you need to have a back up plan. NOW. You need a job lined up if your department was nullified. If you have family and loved ones on social security they need to be saving as much money possible for when the payments stop coming through. We are already having issues with some people losing their social security payments. Unfortunately this is only going to be getting worse. If you do manage to stay with social security - what's next? Look what's happening at IRS and other departments. Fully expect that you will be giving access to DOGE - social security numbers and information. They will be back once the department is crippled enough that they can "swoop in to save it" in other words take it over and gain access to everyones information. I truly hope that people who need to see this, see this message. Do not be like the folks on Titanic who were walking around without a lifejacket on. Who went back to their cabins as the ship sank.
