Have you ever walked into a supermarket, pharmacy, or department store looking to buy a specific item, only to find the layout confusing? Perhaps you ended up aimlessly strolling around, purchasing other items? This is deliberate, and known as the Gruen Transfer. The 'Transfer' part is the moment that you, as a consumer surrounded by a deliberately confusing layout, lose track of your original intentions.
We've all experienced it, and now it's starting to consume the internet. #Internet #GruenTransfer #DarkWeb #WWW #Enshitification

@tek you can add the #enshitification tag to that
"New York Times bestselling author Cory Doctorow returns to the world of Red Team Blues to bring us the origin story of Martin Hench and the most powerful new tool for crime ever invented: the personal computer.
The year is 1986. The city is San Francisco. Here, Martin Hench will invent the forensic accountant — what a bounty hunter is to people, he is to money — but for now he’s an MIT dropout odd-jobbing his way around a city still reeling from the invention of a revolutionary new technology that will change everything about crime forever, one we now take completely for granted.
'Picks And Shovels' is a high-tech crime thriller about the “weird era of PCs” in the early 1980s, when Reaganomics, the tech industry, multilevel marketing, and the AIDS crisis all converged in San Francisco. "—Jacobin

@moelholm I was/am not even interested to try it out. I have seen the “advanced” dashboards. They should really be a free update to all users. And the “AI” is as ridiculous as the one from Strava. So, yeah, not worth the money after having spent a fortune on the watch itself. It feels so cheap and stupid… as when BMW tried to get people to subscribe to the seat heating after also having spent a fortune on a car. I am afraid this subscription model will stop the development of the currently free features and even convert those to a payed plan in the future. I am even more afraid that this will spread to other brands as well (Polar is also trying this now with training plans). We will see what will happen in a couple of years… I am not looking forward to then have to replace my current watch. The #enshitification is reaching the running and fitness world.
Maybe the secret to escaping #enshitification is to make things that are financially worthless.
No, but... seriously,
@internetarchive ?
With all the profound love I have for you, do i really have to contract and interact with Google/Alphabet Inc. in order to be able to log in to The Internet Archive?
Is that something temporary? A mistake? Or is that part of some sort of contractual obligation and/or partnership with the company?
How can people who refuse any interaction with this criminal/monopolistic conglomerate still contribute to your efforts?
Sometimes I see @alternativeto pushing quite a lot of commercial software and wonder about the perceived shift of perspective.
#CAD #CAM for example: Artsoft's Mach3 & Mach4 are listed separately as controllers, but not the #FreeSoftware #OpenSouce alternative #UGS?! Even #YouTube is better in the case of #CNC since the existence of #UniversalGCODEsender isn't censored (like covid).
Please, stop the progress of #enshitification and save the much appreciated website with more #GPL alternatives. TY
#Spotif goes #enshitification -- definitely final sign to switch to some (other European) alternative. Remember, Spotify hosts podcasts from #MAGA type people like #JoeRogan.

Now I have to get on a help line to try to track down a small but meaningful missing sum sent by a family member whose UK bank promised 'next day' service some weeks ago.
Payment was share of a small town memorial plaque for parents now gone. Can't do anything more than one standard deviation from the masses these days without these c___ f_____ things up and making torture of it.
Dreading it & lining up side projects so the morning won't be a complete waste.
One of the biggest wins of the giant corporate 'persons' currently aligning to wreck the planet is having trained us not to think of them as 'special interests'.
It’s a forest/trees kinda thing & they love it.
Social engineering (what it is to them - stochastically guiding consumer decision-making via far more sly & powerful tools than blunt instrument advertising) we now happily buy for 'free' as 'social networking'.
What's not to love?
omfg, #enshitification is never going to end, is it? Today when trying to film my next YT vid, I have found out by a huge fucking surprise that the #CameraConnect app by #Canon, now requires an account to be able to use it, breaking the ability for me to adjust focus, and all the other shenanigans. Basically this camera is unusable for filming yourself. Not that it was perfect before either, but at least it worked up until now.
Great job breaking perfectly fine and functioning things, without a warning and the option to downgrade!
Keep on breaking them, we're rich here, I can keep on spending about $1000 on a camera each year. /s
Ich so "Hey Amazon, ich hätte gerne dasda..."
Amazon so: "Bestätige mal deine IBAN!"

sad to watch Apple's slow march to #enshitification

Dear Yelp
restaurants with outdoor seating, doesn’t include restaurants where you can order takeout and sit on the curb to eat it. Now excuse me while I wade through your list of every restaurant in the city
You mean like every developer and automation geek & widget constantly working to anticipate my every next move down to last keystroke like some ubiquitous office-mate constantly swinging by regardless of time to 'offer a little advice with that'?
What a great I'dea!
It’s things like this that make you question all life and the universe in general: I create events on our new platform, that’s where people are supposed to sign up. I create a dummy event at the old one with a link to the new one as the sole ref in the description. I set the number of participants to only ONE (me, myself) and yet now I have half a dozen of brilliant ignorants on each of the events on the waitlist. Not sure what they are waiting for.
No Google, that is definitely NOT what I meant. #google #enshitification
