Continuing the theme of disposable #vapes disguised as beverages, these take the shape of sports water bottles. Each has a USB-C port for recharging the 600mAh #lithiumPolymer battery.

There is an inner shell protecting the battery so it is undamaged despite the case being cracked open by force -- likely stomped on or run over by car. But likely suffered internal damage from a very brutal recharging regime.

Three disposable vape devices in various states of disassembly. The outer shell is shaped and coloured like a sports water bottle but much smaller in size. The text printed on the "bottles" reads: Enjoy Ultra, Blueberry, 9000 Puffs, Taste the magic

Found a Pyne Pod 8500 discarded in the grass during a walk into town yesterday

Surprisingly sophisticated charging circuitry for an item designed to be disposable. No obvious way to open it in order for owners to refill the tank or to swap in a new atomizer module.

Found all these disposable #Vape devices by just walking into town and back today. Passed by a few that were little more than shattered remains in the road. Even the run overs might still have salvageable electronics -- the pressure sensor can be repurposed as a capacitive touch switch

At this rate I'll easily exceed the number I found last year.

That pressure sensing capsule found in most disposable #vape pens can very easily be turned into a #touchSensitive switch that is capable of switching currents high enough to activate small relays and solenoids

Simply slice the top off, exposing the edges of the inner and outer conductive cylindrical walls. Bridging the two walls with something no more conductive than human skin is sufficient to trigger it

Tobacco ControlE-cigarette use among early adolescent tobacco cigarette smokers: testing the disruption and entrenchment hypotheses in two longitudinal cohortsObjective Using longitudinal data from two large-scale cohorts in the UK and USA, we examine whether e-cigarette use steers adolescent early smokers away from tobacco cigarettes (disruption hypothesis) or deepens early patterns of tobacco smoking (entrenchment hypothesis) in comparison with early smokers who do not use e-cigarettes. Methods Youth who smoked tobacco cigarettes by early adolescence (before age 15) were selected from the ongoing UK Millennium Cohort Study (n=1090) and the US Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (n=803) study. In regression models, the focal predictor was lifetime use of an e-cigarette by early adolescence and the primary outcome was current tobacco use by late adolescence (before age 18). Logistic and multinomial models controlled for early adolescent risk factors and sociodemographic background, and were weighted for attrition and adjusted for complex survey designs. Results Among youth who were early cigarette smokers, 57% of UK and 58% of US youth also used e-cigarettes. The odds of later adolescent smoking among early smoking youth were significantly higher among e-cigarette users relative to those who had not used e-cigarettes (adjusted OR (AORUK)=1.45; AORUSA=2.19). In both samples, multinomial models indicated that early smoking youth who used e-cigarettes were more likely to be frequent smokers relative to not smoking (AORUK=2.01; AORUSA=5.11) and infrequent smoking (AORUK=1.67; AORUSA=2.11). Conclusions Despite national differences in e-cigarette regulation and marketing, there is evidence e-cigarette use among early adolescent smokers in the UK and USA leads to higher odds of any smoking and more frequent tobacco cigarette use later in adolescence. Data are available upon reasonable request. Data used for these analyses are available to scholars by request from the organisations that oversee the MCS and PATH data sets.

A rare find outside the gates of a school - disposable vape device with a non-cylindrical battery. Of the 100+ single-use vape pens I've found discarded on the side of streets over the past year, the vast majority had rechargeable cylindrical batteries

Very addicting this #vape device habit of mine.

I cannot seem to stop myself taking apart single-use "disposable" #ecigarette vaping pens that I find discarded in the streets in order to salvage the components, namely the rechargeable #LithiumPolymer batteries that they use, in most cases only once.

Tossed many non-viable ones into the battery recycling bins

And I still have a backlog of 24 more pens to disassemble!

3 cardboard boxes containing 78 lithium polymer batteries salvaged from vape devices found discarded on the ground in England over a period of about 9 months. One box has a cardboard separator that neatly organises 16 batteries in a 4x4 grid arrangement. The other two boxes pack the batteries very close together in a haphazard fashion with all their positive terminals oriented upwards.
