Cows in the mist. I wake at elevation in the "banana belt" and for today's run descended into the cloud and fog to say hello to these beasties on Green Valley Road. Once again, I felt reticent leaving the dejected dog behind, but a runner must run - lives depend on it.

Neighbour calves not loving the cold wet- one looking like the starry void! We were forecast 10-20cm of #snow Sunday through Monday- we got a bit of rain Mon afternoon, turned to rain/snow melting on the ground, eventually started turning white outside early evening. Maybe 5-8cm on the ground this morning (those views to come). Lots melted, lingering in shade. Great moisture for spring renewal. A young Black Angus calf seen through a fence- one blurred wire crosses our view of his body. He is standing sideways to the camera, looking left, head down to the ground- a bit of grazing or hay eating or tasting the wetness/snow? It is snowing and we can see the white dots of snowflakes across the image, but especially against the near perfectly black body of the calf - making it seem almost like looking into a starry black sky. The ground is low grazed and trampled dry grass, with bits of scattered hay and straw piled to the right. Low mounds/clumps of manure are here and there. In the background is a faded grey wooden board fence behind an area of darker ground- trampled dug up earth and manure.

Behind is a grey weathered board fence. It is snowing and we can see the falling dots of white, especially against the fence and the calf's head.
