🧬 Stem cell therapy trial reverses "irreversible" damage to cornea
@NewAtlas

「 By the first checkup at three months, the corneas of seven (50%) of the participants had been completely restored. By the 12-month mark, that number had increased to 11 (79%) patients. Two other participants met the definition for partial success, so the team claims an overall success rate of 92% for CALEC 」

A clinical trial has demonstrated stem cell therapy in reversing damage to the cornea that can cause blindness
New Atlas · Stem cell therapy trial reverses "irreversible" damage to corneaEye injuries that damage the cornea are usually irreversible and cause blindness. But a new clinical trial has repaired this damage in patients thanks to a transplant of stem cells from their healthy eyes.

Smith MD, AM auf Instagram: "Cell Transplants To Regenerate Broken Spinal Cord UC-San Diego neurosurgeons now report in the journal Cell Reports Medicine the successful transplantation and long-term viability of neural stem cells placed in damaged spinal cord tissue. This Phase I study involved 4 subjects with spinal cord injuries in their upper spinal cords underwent transplantation of neural stem cells from the NSI-566 cell line. The transplanted cells were well-tolerated. Two of the four patients demonstrated improvement in their motor and sensory capabilities though not all improvement was sustained. This is the first step in using stem cells to regenerate healthy spinal cord tissue. It shows that these helper cells can remain viable and begin to repair devastating spinal cord damage. We can only hope that additional and sustained progress with this treatment approach occurs….someday soon. https://www.cell.com/cell-reports-medicine/fulltext/S2666-3791(24)00612-8?_returnURL=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S2666379124006128?showall=true #spinalcord #injury #stemcell #repair #neurosurgery"0 likes, 0 comments - drhowardsmithreports am January 9, 2025: "Cell Transplants To Regenerate Broken Spinal Cord UC-San Diego neurosurgeons now report in the journal Cell Reports Medicine the successful transplantation and long-term viability of neural stem cells placed in damaged spinal cord tissue. But this is a slow-moving miracle. Shelby's #transplant itself took less than 8 minutes, but required more than 7 weeks in the hospital.

All told, from Shelby's #stemcell collection to the time she'll be allowed to leave immunity-protecting isolation and go back to in-person school, it will be over a year.
