It was 32° Celsius in my bedroom when I last looked after 11pm last night.

There must have been some winds around as I slept, as #SES crews are around town clearing branches & trees from the roads.

The local #firies are at the fire station, having breakfast & waiting to see what the day brings. (There were 2 small #bushfires yesterday evening about 9km’s from me).

@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff noone relies solely on #Starlink, espechally given it's big-ass dishes.

  • Even the #US #DoD uses #Iridium & #UHFSATCOM.

  • #SES & #Eutelsat have various commercial #Cband, #KuBand & #KaBand transponders for bidirectional data from their GSOs.

  • #XTAR has a #Xband-Spotbeam.

  • #Ukraine has both #Fiber and #Radio links (civilian and military) to link together units and emplacements. Espechally direct-burial/lie-flat fiber is used because #COTS parts are cheap, commonplace and unlike copper, they can do 160km+ without amplifiers with ample of room for splices.

Pretty shure Starlink was a mere "comfort feature" allowing units to send their drone footage from their FOB to HQ for instant #Meme|fication and "scoreboard updates" but I'm shure worst-case the #NAFO friends will just pack in some 2,5" SSDs and USB cases with the next supply trucks or have some #Skyhook-Style delivery system if that was ever needed.

  • I'm shure the folks in the trenches will miss YouTubing in their toilet break, but I'm shure they still have enough #Memes and #Entertainment in reserve to compensate for it.

Backstory on Paddy ended up at the NTES. Platypuses aren't native to NT, so he hatched in NSW and got swept away during flood waters. He then watched enthusiastic SES workers esthetically help during a natural disaster and decided he wanted to join the SES/NTES. He then migrated across Australia, via South Australia then caught the Ghaun (a train) to Darwin where he joined the NTES. After seeing how much people love him, he's now a public face of the NTES.
Rules about how the suiter should act while in suit. The suiter must be in suit and discuss with their handler hand signals prior to being in public. They also cannot remove any part of the suit in public. The handler also needs to keep the suiter safe from the public, and to prevent them from trampling children. The suiter must be nonverbal, and only communicate with the public using gestures such as Hugs, High fives, throwing kisses, waves, fist bumps and thumbs up.
Personal Health. The suiter needs to be physically and medically fit to wear the suit. The suit wearing duration should be dependent of the weather and the suiter's comfort levels. 20 to 30 minutes is when the weather is cooler (<25°C), or 10 to 30 minutes when it's hot (> 25°C). The suiter should also eat a balanced meal before the event. The suiter can eat something small mid event while outside the suit, and it's suggested that the suiter drinks plenty of liquid including carbohydrate based sports drinks while outside of public viewing.
