Über die Osterferien wird die Hohenzollernstraße gesperrt sein. Da die komplette Fahrbahndecke abgetragen werden muss, betrifft die Vollsperrung beide Richtungen. Ob ein Radweg markiert wird, steht noch nicht fest. Das Gericht hat sich zum Einspruch der Stadt Mönchengladbach noch nicht geäußert.

Today, the most spectacular car of the 2000-2005 era at MG Rover, the MG XPower SV. This was a rebodied version of the Qvale Mangusta, a project which at one stage, as the name suggests, had been linked to De Tomaso. Like yesterday’s ZT-T 260, the SV used a Ford V8 - albeit one with more power in the case of this high performance ‘R’ version seen at last week’s Practical Classics resto show. Bonkers!
Today another post on the initiatives of the ‘independent era’ 2000-2005 MG Rover, and a car, the high performance MG ZT-T 260 estate, that embodied four of them.
1) The decision to offer the Rover 75 in a sporty rebadged alternative version, the MG ZT, in 2001.
2) The introduction in 2001 of an estate body for the 75/ZT (the MG version was designated ZT-T)
3) The 2004 75/ZT ‘single headlamp’ facelift (1/2)
After yesterday’s CityRover, I thought it would be interesting to look at some of the other initiatives of the 2000-2005 independent MG Rover. In 2002, the MG F roadster (white car) was developed into the MG TF (red car). This change was more than just a facelift. Hydragas suspension was replaced by steel springs, and the body structure was improved. Both cars seen at last weekend’s Practical Classics restoration show at the NEC.

Yesterday’s RDX60, the planned Rover 25/45 replacement under the 2000-2005 MG Rover regime, never made it into production. But the idea of adapting the company’s most modern platform, the Rover 75, to produce successors to these smaller models had a compelling logic, and was taken up by the later owners of what was left of MG Rover, SAIC of China, with this, the MG6, via the Roewe 550. Today we move forward to 2003 and another attempt by MG Rover to boost the appeal of the now aging Rover 25. After introducing an MG variant, the ZR, in 2001, the company tried to give the core Rover version a bit of attitude as well by offering the (optically at least) toughened up Streetwise model. Once more, quite a lot was achieved with inexpensive modifications. I can offer you a choice of red (2018 NEC Classic Car Show) or green (#FOTU 2023).
After the recently featured smaller MG ZR and MG ZS, here, to complete the set is the Rover 75-based MG ZT. The 75/ZT isn’t itself part of the small Triumphs and Rovers branch of the BL family tree covered in this sequence of posts but it does, as I shall explain, become relevant to the story later on. The ZT was also available in ZT-T estate form. I captured this lovely ZT saloon/sedan at the NEC Classic Car Show in 2023.
Like its 25 stablemate, the Rover 45 also got the MG treatment. Meet the MG ZS, here in vivid Trophy Yellow at the 2023 NEC Classic Car Show. Despite its staid looks, the 45 was a great basis for a sporty version thanks to its comparatively sophisticated Honda-derived suspension. The top of the range ZS 180 model featured here also had Rover’s 2.5-litre KV6 engine, so it was quick as well. The 45 still needed replacing but this was a decent stop-gap.
When BMW walked away from the rump MG Rover in 2000, it sold Land Rover to Ford and kept the new Mini and mid-range R30 project for itself. That left MG Rover without a replacement for the 25 and 45. One interim solution was to offer sporty MG versions of the 25 and 45 (here the 25-based MG ZR), a move that was surprisingly effective in giving those cars fresh appeal at little cost. Fazit: Die Radler haben jetzt die Wahl zwischen „ein wenig Schutz“ (Stadt) und gar keinen Schutz. Die CDU meint, die Radfahrer können sich andere Wege suchen. Nur führt die Bökelstraße über einen Berg und die Eickener Straße hat Schutzstreifen.

@TorbenSchultz Ach guck'. Irgendwie fühle ich mich jetzt verarscht. 
Ich glaube, ich werde am Samstag mal am Wahlkampf-Stand der @Gruene_MG vorbei schauen und denen mal erklären, was ich von deren Politik im Bund, Land und #MG so halte. Nämlich nix! 
Deren OB-Kandidat findet sich ja offenbar super toll und kritisiert ständig Missstände auf FB.
