Quoting Heritage minister Emmanuel Eliahu:

[…] He was then asked: ‘How do we now achieve the maximum release of hostages?’ He replied: ‘The way we are advancing is by encircling Rafah, preventing them from receiving humanitarian aid, and we are determined.’ In reality, the military pressure has thus far led to the deaths of more than 40 hostages, most of them as a result of fire from the #IDF. Finally, Eliahu called the struggle for the release of the hostages ‘whims, a quick adventure for the present, romantic, and good only for the short term,’ and said that the aspiration to return them through a deal is ‘childish’ and ‘romantic.’”

Since the war in Gaza began, the military has increased its deliberate “friction” with residents of the West Bank, including raids on communities with no clear operational goal.
