Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for scientific discovery, but value for money’s important. £17bn for a new detector three times the size of the LHC seems excessive. Especially when parts for the FCC (Future Circular Collider) haven’t even been invented yet.</p><p>From the BBC: “The 2nd phase will begin in the 2070s and require more powerful magnets, so advanced they have not yet been invented…”</p>
